Stuttgart Exhibition Centre: Innovation platform for the economy

Europe’s most state-of-the-art trade fair and convention centre is located in the immediate vicinity of Stuttgart Airport, at the hub of one of the most innovative and dynamic economic regions in Europe. Surrounded by leading international companies from the automotive, machinery construction, electrical engineering and IT industries, the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre and ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart organise congresses and trade fairs as “the key to markets”.

“Innovations can be first seen at our trade fairs”, says Ulrich Kromer, Representative of the General Management of Stuttgart Exhibition Centre, describing the significance of the company. “In 2012, about 1.27 million guests visited this hub of Baden-Württemberg’s strongly exportoriented economy. Together with our exhibitors, we have actively contributed to the development of future markets at 67 trade fairs so far.”

The AMB metalworking trade fair is considered one such market. Every two years, it is the meeting place for the machine tools industry and reflects the industry’s productivity. In 2012, it surpassed all expectations; about 90,000 trade visitors from 65 countries as well as 1,356 exhibitors from 29 countries showed their innovations and worldwide novelties at the fully-booked exhibition grounds.

More than 58,000 visitors from 125 nations came for the R + T, the world’s leading trade fair for roller shutters, doors, gates and sun protection systems – more than ever before. The international popularity of the event every three years brings an especially high capacity utilisation of the hotel and catering trade around Stuttgart. At VISION, the world’s leading trade fair for image processing, specialists from the image processing machinery construction and electrical engineering, electronics, precision engineering, optics, medical technology and the automotive and supplier industries are informed about the newest innovations of image processing technology every two years.

Stuttgart International Exhibition Centre – at home in the world

The Stuttgart Exhibition Centre, with its two subsidiaries in Turkey and China as well as foreign representatives in 54 countries, promises an active cultivation of global markets under its “key to markets” slogan. Unlike most of the other German states, Baden-Württemberg participates actively in the global exchange of goods and services. According to the Regional Statistical Authority, total foreign trade amounted to about 172 billion euros in 2011. In national comparison, Baden-Württemberg ranks second.

Under the trade name “Nanjing Trade Fair”, the company hosts its own trade fairs and guest events in the East Chinese business and trade metropolis, offering the export-oriented economy a local professional platform since 15 October 2012. “As one of the most important manufacturing centres in China, Nanjing, just like Stuttgart, is an ideal venue for international trade fairs right in the middle of the market”, says Stuttgart Exhibition Centre Managing Director Roland Bleinroth about the advantages of the location. “The ultra-modern exhibition grounds were only opened at the end of 2008, and the current premises covering 72,000 square metres offer an attractive and efficient platform. The additional expansion of 200,000 square metres in the second phase has already begun.”

Along with the R+T Asia fair held in Shanghai since 2005, the “AMB China” and the tourism trade fair “CMT China” are further examples of the many successful trade fair exports “Made in Stuttgart”.
